Ralph Lauren “Create Your Own” Polo

Taking a cue from the likes of Nike ID comes Ralph Lauren’s own version of custom. The ability to customize your polo with flags, logo colors and various design options will be available at selected Japanese RL stores. This is a great idea and shows forward thinking. My prediction for 2009 is a rise in concepts such as this for more brands.

True Hip Hop Stories – Homeless Emcee

Perhaps its my age showing but it’s rare for me to see hip hop that can evoke the same feelings that it used to. To me, the majority of artists over the last 10 years have regurgitated the same rubbish over and over again. My hip hop was one of struggle, of triumph over adversity and individuality.

This video not only affirmed my belief on hip hop but gave me inspiration and motivation to do more with my vision of hip hop. This, to me, is exactly what hip hop should be. It’s self expression but at the same time its therapy.

Memorable quotes:

“These fucking people, they look at you. Say excuse me sir, excuse me maam, try to show them respect, 70 percent of them ignore you like you don’t fucking exist unless it’s dark of course and you walking behind them … then all of a sudden, they know you’re there”

“Hip hop is all fucked up right now. I don’t know what the hell happened. Niggas changed the game, 50 fucked the game up with all that dumb shit he be talking. Changing weathers, flying and all kinds of fucking air force one jets. Nobody want to hear that shit. I can’t relate to that.”

“Hip hop is what I feel, man. What I do. Who I am. And that’s my personal therapy.”

Premium Goods – Air Yeezy T-Shirts

So by now every sneaker head, Kanye fan and hypebeast has seen/heard/tasted/smelt/touched/bought their first pair of Air Yeezy. Now comes the interesting part to see who wears it with what and what people are doing with them. Premium Goods have released their Air Yeezy t-shirt (limited of course) to customers. They are only available by raffle and one raffle ticket gets your three chances, one for each colorway. What better way of saying I love Kanye by wearing his shoes your your feet and pictures of the same shoe on your t-shirt.

Visvim Backpocket T-Shirt and Red Cloud

Visvim’s native American influences run strong in their Red Cloud t-shirt. The motif covering this t-shirt is inspired by Red Cloud, a Native American warrior.

The backpocket t-shirt is an interesting addition. It features a flannel flap/back pocket. I’m not sure what you would put in this pocket but its is quite interesting.

Bedwin x Clarks Desert Boot

The Clarks Desert Boot is a classic, much in the same way that the Converse Chuck Taylors are a classic. These sneakers have bypassed culture, movements and social groups to be loved and worn by everyone from punks to hiphop kids. The desert boot is a classic silhouette but a bit of tweaking by Bedwin has ended up in a chunkier looking shoe. With subtle branding on the tongue, Bedwin has preserved the classic nature of this shoe while still maintaining its relevance in todays crazy mixed up sneaker culture.

Web Trend Map

Although I don’t quite understand its purpose or function, I still like this map just for its design alone. Maybe one day we’ll be seeing this humble blog on the map. Speaking of which, a domain name has been secured and things are going nicely on moving the blog onto the new site with improved features.

A larger version of the map can be viewed here.
