Perhaps its my age showing but it’s rare for me to see hip hop that can evoke the same feelings that it used to. To me, the majority of artists over the last 10 years have regurgitated the same rubbish over and over again. My hip hop was one of struggle, of triumph over adversity and individuality.
This video not only affirmed my belief on hip hop but gave me inspiration and motivation to do more with my vision of hip hop. This, to me, is exactly what hip hop should be. It’s self expression but at the same time its therapy.
Memorable quotes:
“These fucking people, they look at you. Say excuse me sir, excuse me maam, try to show them respect, 70 percent of them ignore you like you don’t fucking exist unless it’s dark of course and you walking behind them … then all of a sudden, they know you’re there”
“Hip hop is all fucked up right now. I don’t know what the hell happened. Niggas changed the game, 50 fucked the game up with all that dumb shit he be talking. Changing weathers, flying and all kinds of fucking air force one jets. Nobody want to hear that shit. I can’t relate to that.”
“Hip hop is what I feel, man. What I do. Who I am. And that’s my personal therapy.”
